Why Going Green Could Earn You Big Money

October 15, 2013 By David Glenn

There are many benefits of living an eco-friendly life, the most important of which, is the positive impact that it has on the Earth. However, what some people don’t realize, is the enormous personal benefit that going green can have. Sure, you are reducing your carbon footprint, but did you know that you are also saving yourself money, and in fact possibly even earning yourself some? Here are some of the ways in which going green could generate cash in just about every area of your life.

At Home

Giving your house an eco-friendly makeover is one of the best ways to save money on a regular basis. And if you automate your utilities using a smart thermostat, you will find that it is not only cheaper and more green, but it is also more convenient. A smart thermostat is programmable, and allows you to program in your daily habits—even allowing for a changing schedule for special days such as the weekend—and it will alter heating and cooling around your specific needs. What this means is that you will not be wasting energy on heating or cooling an empty house. Furthermore, full home automation allows you to control your lighting as well, which means that you do not have to worry about lights being left on and wasting energy—you can turn them off remotely using your smartphone.

In Business

Businesses are meant to earn you money; it is their primary function. Sometimes however, a lot of money can be wasted through bad environmental practices. You can save hundreds of dollars through a few simple steps. The main one is to go paperless. This saves on paper as well as writing supplies. It is also a more convenient and efficient way to run business. Another good environmental practice is to allow people to telecommute, which cuts back on travel emissions. Furthermore, using other environmental practices such as green warehouses with conveyer systems and automated labeling can be the kind of thing that transforms a business for the better.

On the Go

Cycling on the street

Green travel also has a massive impact on the earth. Not all of us can afford a fancy hybrid, and there is some debate as to how eco-friendly these cars actually are, but you can still be eco-friendly through the travel choices that you make. When you can, walk. If you cannot walk, cycle. If you cannot cycle, look into the different options for public transport in your area. This will help save the earth, and you should notice quickly that you earn a lot of extra money through saving on gas for your vehicle as well. You will also get health benefits from walking more. Perhaps you can combine two or more of the mentioned modes of transport, such as cycling to the train or bus stop, and you will probably find that you can make it just about anywhere using green transport. Going green is much easier than most people think, and it has many more benefits that you might never have known.
