The global campaign to lead a green lifestyle has had a great impact on the citizens of the world and remains strong as ever. It is inspiring to see and hear that countries are making efforts to lessen their carbon footprints through various means, institutions and organizations doing the same and people making sure that they also do their share in preserving the environment.
When it comes to earning an income, working at home is, undoubtedly, the best way to save Mother Earth. The environmental benefits are far greater compared to reporting to the office every day.
The Gains
A survey in the Microsoft report entitled “Workd without Walls” has shown the top 10 benefits of working at home. The first five on the list are achieving work/home balance at 60 percent, being able to save gas at 55 percent, avoiding traffic at 47 percent, being more productive at 45 percent and having less distractions at 44 percent. The other benefits enumerated were eliminating the need for a long commute, quieter atmosphere, less stressful environment, more time with family and environment friendly.
Another previous survey by Cisco covering 2,000 people around the world showed that employees who telecommute claimed higher productivity rates, work-life flexibility and overall satisfaction. In addition, the company was able to save a huge amount of money and productivity costs.
In terms of land and building use, working from home means less demand for land and commercial buildings which require energy to construct and operate. This, in turn, prevents deforestation which is considered a major contributor to the higher greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
